Women’s lacrosse defeated by Northwestern (Minn.)

ROCK ISLAND -- The Augustana Vikings women's lacrosse team dropped to the Northwestern (Minn.) Eagles on Saturday by a score of 19-9. 

The Eagles started the first period with five goals before Augie secured two after a free-position shot by Madison Langewisch. Elena Bechard followed with her first goal of the day from Anna Erickson before Northwestern grabbed the final score of the period to make a 6-2 score after 15 minutes of play. In a back-and-forth second period, the Eagles were first to obtain one before Langewisch secured her second goal of the afternoon. Bechard and Langewisch countered two Northwestern scores to end the quarter to bring the game to 10-5 in favor of the visitors at the break.

Returning from halftime, the Eagles tallied seven points and held Augie to one. Kyla Painter had the goal for the Vikings after a free-position strike. In the final 15 minutes of play, Augie outscored Northwestern 3-2 in the period, beginning with Langewisch in a woman-up position. Taylor Ackland snatched her first goal of the season after a pass by Erickson and Langewisch notched a buzzer-beater shot to conclude the game at 19-9.  

Langewsich led the Vikings with five goals and won four draw controls. Rachel Wylie caused three turnovers, while Erickson had two assists. Lanie Cacala finished with eight saves in net.

With the loss, Augie moves to 1-5 on the season and will hit the road on Thursday, March 28 for the final non-conference battle against MSOE.
