MOLINE, Ill. -- The Augustana Vikings baseball team earned a victory at home on Tuesday, beating the Dubuque Spartans by a score of 12-6.
Dubuque got on the board first, scoring three in the first two innings before a dominant third inning from the Vikings. Michael Aragon was the first batter to cross the plate after an error by the Spartans, followed by Grant Biggins driving two runners home. Colton Davis secured the go-ahead run after a sacrifice fly and three consecutive singles brought home another three. Aragon scored again on a walk to notch the Vikings' eighth run and close the inning with Augie up 8-3.
In the fourth, Augie tallied another two starting with Biggins scoring on a passed ball. Daniel Mosele doubled to bring in the second run to increase the scoring gap to seven. In the following inning, a sacrifice fly brought in Alec McGinnis before a triple from Dymitri Kanellakis secured a 12-3 score. The Spartans scored the final three tallies of the game, but it was not enough as the Vikings held on for the 12-6 win.Â
Cole Green, Kanellakis, Kannon Perry, and Mosele all secured two hits to lead the Vikings, while Biggins brought two runs home. Zach DeMarlie secured the win after three innings pitched and three strikeouts.
With the win, Augustana's win streak improves to six and moves its record to 11-3. The Vikings will head back to Florida on March 22-26 for the RussMatt Invitational.
