ROCK ISLAND -- The Augustana Vikings women's lacrosse team fell to the UW-Stout Blue Devils on Saturday by a score of 20-11.
The Blue Devils were first on the board, but Madison Langewisch followed with a goal from Elena Bechard in a woman-up position two minutes later to even the score at one. The UW-Stout closed out the first period with five goals to make a 6-1 score after 15 minutes of play. In the second period, Colleen Chiavola notched the first goal from Anna Davison before Langewisch grabbed her second goal of the day. Bechard added another to close the scoring gap to two, but the Blue Devils grabbed the last two points to head into halftime with a score of 8-4.
Augie obtained the first two goals in the third quarter with a free-position from Bechard and Chiavola in a woman-up position. In the final six minutes of the quarter, UW-Stout added four more to their score to double up the Vikings and head into the final 15 minutes with a score of 12-6. The fourth quarter started with a goal from Langewisch, with Bechard notching the assist, before the Blue Devils grabbed another. Langewisch followed 50 seconds later in a woman-up situation, but UW-Stout found four consecutive tallies. Chiavola earned two back-to-back woman-up goals and another a minute later, but the Blue Devils scored the last two to close out the game 20-11.
Chiavola and Langewisch led the Vikings with four goals apiece, while Bechard notched three assists. Chiavola also had eight ground balls, Rachel Wylie caused five turnovers, and Langewisch won six draw controls.
With the loss, Augie moves to 1-4 on the season and will be back in action next Saturday at Thorson-Lucken Field, where they will host Northwestern (Minn.).
