Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 ORANGE, Calif. -- The Augustana Vikings wrapped up day one of the 2024 Claremont Convergence on Friday with a 1-1 record, defeating the Caltech Beavers by a score of 15-2 before falling to the Chapman Panthers by a final of 9-8.

In game one, the two teams played to a back-and-forth opening quarter, beginning with a Caltech goal that was followed by consecutive scores from Victoria Guest. Another tally from the Beavers evened the game at 2-2, but Charlotte Newport's strike with 12 seconds left gave Augie a 3-2 lead after eight minutes of action. The Vikings added onto their cushion with a 5-0 margin in the second, fueled by two scores from Ocean Akau to kick off the second quarter. Augie led 8-2 at the halftime break.

Another scoreless period ensued from the Augie defense as the team added four more points to its total. Four different Vikings tallied a goal in the frame, with Akau earning her third of the contest to start the scoring in the quarter. Augustana notched three more in the final period to make it 13 unanswered goals to close out the game.

Akau led the Vikings in scoring with three goals, while Guest added two scores and a steal. Natalie Abril earned the win in net after grabbed 14 saves and four steals.

In game two against Chapman, the Panthers doubled up the Vikings in the opening quarter and held a 4-2 lead after eight minutes. Casey Barragan earned both goals in the opening quarter, as well as the lone strike of the second quarter for the Vikings as the team faced a 5-3 deficit at halftime. The Panthers moved their advantage back out to three on two different occasions in the third, but a late score from Anita Rodgers brought Augie back within two at 7-5 with just eight minutes remaining.

Newport began the fourth quarter with a score to cut the differential to a single point, but Chapman answered with one of their own moments later. The Vikings could not find the equalizing tally and despite a late score from Barragan with 15 seconds remaining, Augie was unable to get the ball back to try and find the game-tying score.

Baragan led the way with five goals for Augustana, while Lizzie Pelzman saved 12 shots.

The Vikings now sit at 6-2 on the season and will continue play with two more games tomorrow.
