GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. -- The Augustana Vikings men's lacrosse team dropped its season opener on Saturday afternoon, falling to the Calvin Knights on the road by a score of 15-2.
Augustana got on the board first with a man-up tally from
Carson Ghys on a pass from
Elijah Graesser, but the home team scored three times to close out the first 15 minutes and bring a 3-1 lead into the second. Calvin pulled away with a five-spot while holding Augie scoreless to make it an 8-1 advantage at the break.
Following a Knights goal to begin the third,
Brady Holtz notched the second score of the day for the Vikings, capitalizing on an another man-up advantage to bring Augie within seven. Calvin secured the game's final six points to complete the 15-2 win.
Trevor Herman grabbed six ground balls and was 10-13 on faceoffs for Augie, while
Zach Reser led the team with three caused turnovers.
Gus Magnusson stopped 12 shots in net.
Augustana is now 0-1 on the year and will be back in action on March 6 vs. Dubuque.
