ROCK ISLAND -- The Augustana Vikings men's lacrosse team was defeated in its home opener on Wednesday, falling to the visiting Dubuque Spartans by a final of 17-4.

Dubuque earned the game's first four tallies through the opening eight minutes, but the Vikings answered with a pair of scores from Jake Moore to cut the deficit in half. The Spartans notched the final two points of the first period to take a 6-2 lead into the second. A 7-1 margin for the visitors broke the game open as the Vikings faced a 13-3 deficit at the break. Moore notched his third goal of the game around the five-minute mark.

A low-scoring second half ensued, with the Spartans slightly winning the third by a margin of 2-1 to push their lead out to 11 entering the final frame. Dubuque tallied two more in the fourth and held Augustana scoreless to complete the 17-4 victory. Moore scored the lone goal of the second half for the Vikings to give him four for the game.

Brady Holtz and Elijah Graesser both added assists for Augustana, while Gus Magnusson stopped 14 shots in net.
