JACKSONVILLE, Ill. -- The Augustana Vikings baseball team began their three-day trip at Illinois College with a 5-2 win over the Calvin Knights on Friday.
Calvin got on the board in the top of the first, but Augie followed with back-to-back singles from Cole Green and Alec McGinnis to begin the bottom half. Alex Simon produced a sacrifice bunt to move Green to third and McGinnis to second before Dymitri Kanellakis' single scored both to put the Vikings up in front 2-0.Â
Augie put up two more runs in the third, starting with a single by Daniel Mosele, who moved to second on a sac bunt. McGinnis followed with a hit by pitch and Simon singled to bring in Mosele. Kanellakis brought in another run with a fielder's choice to allow McGinnis to cross the plate and make the score 4-1.Â
Two innings later, the Vikings added their final tally, beginning with a Kanellakis two-out single. After moving to second on a wild pitch, Grant Biggins secured a single to bring him and push the margin out to four. The Knights added one in the top of the sixth, but Augustana held on to earn the bounce-back win by a score of 5-2.Â
Kanellakis led Augie with two hits, while McGinnis tallied two runs scored. Adam Bendoraitis earned the win on the mound and Anthony Sus earned the save in relief.Â
With the win, the Vikings move to 2-1 on the season and will return to action tomorrow to face off against the St. Norbert Green Knights at 2 p.m.
