ST. PAUL, Minn. -- The Augustana Vikings women's water polo team secured two more wins at the Macalester Invite on Sunday, defeating the Occidental Tigers by a score of 12-5 before downing the Carthage Firebirds with a final of 16-2.

Against the Tigers, the Vikings had a big opening quarter, scoring five times while holding Oxy to just one point. Charlotte Newport accounted for three of the team's first four goals, with Ocean Akau notching the final score with just nine seconds left in the frame. Augie doubled up Occidental in the second with a 4-2 margin to bring a 9-3 lead into halftime. Newport tallied two more the quarter to give her five goals through 16 minutes of action. Annie Opal Dickson, Alayna Ickert, and Carli Udovich also added scores in the first half.

Each team scored twice in the third to keep the six-point margin steady before the Vikings tallied the final point in a low-scoring fourth quarter. Casey Barragan and Jillian Hagmann grabbed goals in the third before Anita Rodgers' score in the fourth brought the game to its 12-5 final.

Newport ended her outing with five goals on five shots to lead Augie, while Susan Palmentera-Reid earned the win in net with 13 saves.

Against the Firebirds, Augustana put up back-to-back 4-0 periods to begin the game to take an 8-0 advantage into halftime. Barragan earned the first two tallies of the afternoon before Akau sent in two within the final 1:36 of the opening frame. Four different Vikings scored in the second to extend the cushion to eight points after 16 minutes of action.

Jasmin Aponte notched the first goal of the second half to make it nine scores in a row for Augustana, but the Firebirds answered with their first point less than 30 seconds later. Augie added two more onto its total before the quarter's conclusion, seeing consecutive goals from Barragan to move the score to 11-1. Barragan began the fourth with another score before two more from Newport. Rodgers and Udovich were responsible for the final two points for the Vikings to complete the 16-2 win.

Barragan led all scorers with six goals, while Newport had three in the win. Victoria Guest also contributed three assists and a steal. Natalie Abril earned the win in net with 12 saves.
