MEMPHIS, Tenn. -- The Augustana Vikings baseball team dropped its second game of the Rhodes Classic on Sunday, falling to the Rhodes Lynx by a score of 7-3.
The Lynx got on the board first in the bottom of the first to take an early 1-0 lead. In the top of the fourth, Alex Simon earned a walk and followed by stealing second. A single by Dymitri Kanellakis advanced him to third before a Grant Biggins' fielder's choice brought Simon home to even the score. Rhodes answered with two runs in the bottom half to go back out in front 3-1 before a four-spot in the sixth extended the margin to six.
The Vikings inched closer in the seventh, seeing a single from Colton Davis set up a two-run home run from Michael Aragon the following at-bat. Neither team scratched a run across the rest of the way as the Lynx held on for the 7-3 win.
Augie tallied six hits, all coming from six different players. Nathan Melby struck out four in relief.
With the loss, Augie moves to 1-1 on the season. The team will be back in action on Friday, February 23 for the Illinois College Invitational.
