ROCK ISLAND -- The Augustana Vikings men's soccer team fell to the Millikin Big Blue on Saturday by a score of 1-0.
The Vikings had a strong showing of defense in the first half, fending off Millikin's five shots to keep the visitors off the scoreboard. Augie fired off three of its own, with one on target, but the two teams remained scoreless after 45 minutes of action.
Returning to the field, the 0-0 deadlock remained intact until 12 minutes left in the period when the Big Blue collected the lone goal of the contest to take the 1-0 advantage. Millikin out shot Augie 10-6 in the second half, with Benjamin Samuelson saving six of those attempts.
Luis Garcia, Ben Statz, and Diego San Pedro led Augie with two shots, while Samuelson collected seven saves in his 90 minutes in goal.
With the loss, Augie moves to 5-7-1 on the season and 2-5 in CCIW play. The Vikings will hit the road for the final regular season game of the season at Elmhurst on Wednesday, October 30.
