ROCK ISLAND -- The Augustana Vikings women's soccer team played to a scoreless draw with the Wartburg Knights on Wednesday.

Wartburg controlled the ball often in the opening half, out-shooting the Vikings 11-2 through the first 45 minutes. Liesl Whitener accounted for the only two attempts for Augie, with one of those coming on target, while four of the Knights' 11 looks came on the mark. Sara Schinker stopped all four of those shots on goal and the two teams brought a 0-0 deadlock into halftime. 

Schinker and the Augie defense continued to shine in the second half as they faced another onslaught of shots from Wartburg. The Knights sent off 13 in the half to the Vikings' three, with eight of those resulting in saves for Schinker.  Six of those saves came in a span of 15 minutes starting in the 65th minute. The Vikings also endured three attempts by the visitors in the final 10 minutes, but continued to keep them out of the net. Ximena Osorio-Rodriguez had a look at the goal in the 48th minute before Whitener fired off two in a row back-to-back later in the half. Neither team mustered a point as the two remained scoreless until the end.

Schinker ended the night with 12 saves in net, while Whitener led the way with four shots.

The Vikings now sit at 7-1-2 on the season and will be back in action Saturday vs. Carroll.
