ROCK ISLAND -- The Augustana Vikings men's soccer team was defeated in a CCIW matchup at home on Saturday, falling to the visiting Carthage Firebirds by a score of 4-0.
Carthage got on the board four minutes into the contest, but the Vikings' defense held their own the rest of the half, fending off 11 total shots in the opening 45 minutes.
Frankie Baio notched three saves in the first half of action to keep the Vikings within one heading into intermission.
The Firebirds added onto their lead four minutes out of the halftime break, pushing across one more score six minutes later to make it 3-0. The visitors added one final tally in the closing minutes to complete the 4-0 final.
Baio saved seven shots in net, while
Rayane Haidi accounted for all three shot attempts for Augie.
Augustana drops to 0-7-2 with the loss. The team will be back in action on Wednesday, October 4 when they visit Illinois Wesleyan.
