CHICAGO, Ill. -- The Augustana Vikings women's soccer team dropped a non-conference contest at the Illinois Tech Scarlet Hawks on Sunday, falling by a score of 4-1 to move their record to 1-1 on the season.
The Vikings defense held their own to begin the game, holding off a barrage of Illinois Tech shot attempts before the home team finally connected on one in the 35th minute. The Scarlet Hawks out-shot the Vikings 15-0 in the opening 45 minutes, but seven saves from
Janey Castoe kept Augie within a point at the halftime break.
The Scarlet Hawks doubled their advantage 12 minutes into the second half, but the margin moved back to one three minutes later on a
Liesl Whitener's second goal of the season. Whitener accounted for the team's only shot of the contest and Illinois Tech added two more scores to close out the game at its 4-1 final.
Castoe ended the afternoon with 10 saves in net.
Augustana will be back in action on Wednesday, September 6 when they host Coe for the home opener. Start time is scheduled for 7 p.m. from Thorson-Lucken Field.
