CHICAGO, Ill. -- The Augustana Vikings women's soccer team earned their seventh shutout victory of the season on Saturday, winning their CCIW opener by a score of 2-0 over the North Park Vikings.

Shots were few and far between on Saturday, with just two total attempts record in the first half, both by North Park. The first try did not come until the 31st minute, with the second coming right before the end of the half, ending in a Janey Castoe save. The two teams remained scoreless after 45 minutes of action.

Five minutes into the second half, the Vikings notched their first shot attempt of the game, resulting in Liesl Whitener's 10th goal of the season as she took a pass to the middle of the box from Abby DeGustino and sent it into the right side of the net to make it 1-0.  Augustana kept the pressure on as Paige Bingen sent a shot at the net four minutes later. The two teams continued their defensive battle, going nearly 20 minutes without a shot either way. In the 74th minute, DeGustino sent a cross towards the goal, setting up a header from Whitener into the far side of the net, her 11th tally of the year, to make it 2-0. The 2-0 margin remained intact as Augie notched its seventh win and shutout of the season. 

Castoe earned her fourth shutout of the season, finishing with two saves. North Park out-shot Augie 4-3 in the contest.

With the win, the Vikings move to 7-1-1 on the season. The team will return home on Wednesday, September 27 to face Illinois College.
