CHICAGO, Ill. -- The Augustana Vikings men's soccer team was defeated in their conference opener on Saturday, falling on the road to the North Park Vikings by a score of 3-0.
The two teams played without a score for the first 30 minutes of action, with the Augie defense holding off continuous pressure throughout the first half. North Park got on the board in the 32nd minute with a score and held a 1-0 advantage heading into halftime.
Ben Statz had the lone shot attempt for Augustana in the opening frame.
Augustana saw more opportunities on offense in the second half, posting three shot attempts while holding North Park to three fewer than what they had in the first. Augie attempted two strikes at the net within the opening 20 minutes, but neither could connect as the game remained at its one-goal margin. The home team added onto to their lead in the 72nd minute before notching a breakaway in the final seconds to complete the 3-0 victory.
Rayane Haidi led Augustana in shots with two, while
Benjamin Samuelson and
Ignacio Alberola combined for three saves in net.
The Vikings drop to 0-5-2 with the loss and will be back in action on Tuesday, September 26 when they visit Coe.
