ROCK ISLAND -- The Augustana Vikings women's soccer team earned their fourth win a row and fifth shutout victory of the season on Wednesday, defeating the visiting Central Dutch by a score of 2-0.

The Vikings and Dutch traded shots early on, but neither could capitalized as the two defenses fended off multiple attacks from their opponents. Augie saw three shots early on, but could not tally a strike on target until Liesl Whitener broke a scoreless tie in the 35th minute with her seventh goal of the season. The Dutch out-shot the Vikings 9-4 in the opening 45 minutes, but only three were on target and were all saved by starter Kierstyn Rogers in net.

Central mirrored their offensive pressure in the second, again posting a 9-4 advantage in shots. This time, five of their nine attempts were on goal, but none could find the back of the net as Janey Castoe recorded five stops in her return to the field. Whitener added an insurance score in the 74th minute to make it 2-0 as the defense held off five Dutch shot attempts in the final 15 minutes to hold on for their fifth shutout victory of the year. 

Whitener and Ximena Osorio-Rodriguez led the way for Augie with three shots apiece.

With the victory, the Vikings move to 5-1 on the season. The team will hit the road for their next on Saturday, September 16 when they visit Monmouth.
