MONMOUTH, Ill. -- The Augustana Vikings women's soccer team earned a 2-2 tie with the Monmouth Fighting Scots on Saturday, extending their unbeaten streak to five games.
Less than seven minutes into the contest, the Vikings faced their first deficit since September 3 as the Scots got on the board for the early 1-0 lead. In the 19th minute, the Vikings found the equalizer as
Ximena Osorio-Rodriguez's second goal of the season off of a pass from
Abby DeGustino knotted the score at one goal apiece. The two teams continued to put up a lot of shots through the opening 45 minutes, combining for 17 between the two.
Janey Castoe notched four of her seven goals in net in the first half to help keep the score at 1-1 heading into halftime.
Augustana went out in front 10 minutes into the new frame as
Liesl Whitener secured her ninth tally of the season. Shot numbers declined for both teams in the second half, but Monmouth brought the game to a tie in the 82nd minute on one of just their three shot attempts. The two teams battled out the remainder of the game without another score, resulting in the 2-2 draw.
Whitener led the Vikings' offensive attack with six shots in the game, followed by
Samira Khobdeh's three, all of which were on target.
With the result, Augustana is now 5-1-1 on the season. The team will be back in action on Sunday as they return home for Senior Day against Lawrence.
