MOLINE, Ill. — The No. 1 seeded Augustana baseball team defeated the No. 4-seeded North Park Vikings by a 13-5 final on Thursday in their second matchup of the CCIW Tournament.
North Park scored a lone run in the top of the first to take an early lead, but Augustana responded with three runs in the bottom of the frame to flip the score 3-1 in their favor. With two runners on, Kyle Campbell belted a run-scoring double down the left field line before Dymitri Kanellakis and Chase Maifield mashed consecutive RBI singles to put the Vikings ahead by two. North Park replied with two runs in the top of the second to level the score at three-all, but the deadlock was brief as Augie added three runs in the bottom half to retake the lead. The trio of Campbell, Kanellakis, and Maifield each added their second RBI of the contest in succession to move the score to 6-3.
Both teams pushed across runs in the fourth inning after a scoreless third. North Park scored once to trim Augustana's lead to two, but the Vikings countered with a four-spot in the bottom side of the inning. Kanellakis drove in Ozanic for the first score, followed by a two-RBI single from Alec McGinnis that extended Augie's lead to five. Later in the frame, Maifield came in to score on a fielder's choice off the bat of Cole Green to increase Augustana's advantage to 10-4.
With two outs in the fifth, North Park singled to cut the deficit to five, but the Augustana offense canceled the runs with two of their own. Kanellakis drove in his fourth run of the contest and Maifield hit an RBI double as the Vikings pushed the score to 12-5. A quiet sixth inning from both teams was followed by a seventh inning that featured the game's final run, a sacrifice fly by McGinnis, to bring the score to 13-5.
Adam Bendoraitis earned the win after allowing just two runs with two strikeouts in 5.2 innings of action. Augie outhit North Park by a 17-10 margin, with Kanellakis leading the way with four RBI in a 5-5 effort. Campbell and Maifield also posted three-hit performances.
