Baseball rallies for walk-off win on Senior Day

MOLINE, Ill. – The Augustana Vikings baseball team earned a come-from-behind walk-off victory over the Millikin Big Blue on Sunday, winning by a score of 7-6 to complete a three-game weekend sweep.

The Big Blue opened with a first-inning run for the third straight game before the Vikings knotted the game in the bottom of the second to bring the score to 1-1. Following a Matt Ozanic double to right field, Cole Green mashed a sacrifice fly to center field to plate the Vikings' first run. A scoreless third inning from both teams preceded a three-run surge from Augie in the bottom of the fourth. Green sparked the scoring spree with an RBI double to right center prior to Ozanic's two-run double to right. The lead did not last long as Millikin quickly erased the deficit and evened the score back up at four runs apiece following a three-run surge in their ensuing at-bat.

Millikin broke the tie with runs in the eighth and ninth innings to take a two-run lead into Augie's final opportunity in the bottom of the ninth. The rally began with the Vikings putting two on due to a dropped third strike and an Ozanic single. Two outs followed, bringing Chase Maifield up to the plate with the two runners on. Fresh off a seven-RBI performance on Saturday, Maifield mashed a run-producing single to trim the deficit to one. In the next at-bat, Alec McGinnis ended the game with a two-run single down the right field line, scoring both Kyle Campbell and Michael Gattuso to secure the team's second walk-off win of the series.

Addison Southwick claimed his fourth win of the season on the mound after pitching out of a jam in the top of the ninth. Augie recorded nine hits as a team, led by Ozanic with three. Green, Ozanic, and McGinnis each drove in two runs.

Augustana improves to 26-6 overall and 11-2 in the CCIW with the win. The Vikings will remain home for a non-conference matchup against Eureka on Tuesday. Start time is set for 6:00 p.m. from Swanson Stadium.
