ROCK ISLAND – The Augustana Vikings women's lacrosse team fell 15-8 on Saturday in a Senior Day battle against the North Central Cardinals.
Following two goals from the road team to open the game, Madison Langewisch netted a score at 12:31 to cut the lead in half. North Central sent in three straight scores in response before Cassidy Petrie halted the run with back-to-back tallies, moving the score to 5-3 at the end of one. The Cardinals nabbed two scores to begin the second frame, but saw them erased after Langewisch scored two goals to remain to keep the margin at just two points. North Central added two scores before the break to take a 9-5 lead into halftime.
The two teams traded scores to begin the second half, with Augie's coming off the stick of Langewisch to keep the differential at four halfway through the third quarter. North Central broke the game open with two goals in a row to close the period and three more unanswered strikes to begin the fourth to put the game out of reach. Petrie and Langewisch accounted for the Vikings' final two goals to bring the score to its 15-8 final.
Langewisch scored five of Augie's eight goals, while Petrie tallied three. Augustana held a 14-11 advantage in the draw control and a 38-33 edge in ground balls over the Cardinals, led by Kyla Painter's eight. Rachel Forman recorded seven saves in her 60 minutes of action in goal.
The Vikings move to 5-7 with the loss, 0-4 in conference. The team will be back in action on Wednesday, April 26 for a road contest against Elmhurst. Start time is scheduled for 6:00 p.m. from Langhorst Field.
