Women's lacrosse picks up road win over Elmhurst

ELMHURST, Ill. – The Augustana Vikings women's lacrosse team claimed their first conference win on Wednesday, defeating the Elmhurst Bluejays 13-6 on the road.

Augie surged early in the CCIW battle, taking a commanding 5-0 lead over the Bluejays through the opening 13 minutes. Claire Kim scored the first goal two minutes in, followed by Cassidy Petrie's strike just 12 seconds later. Kyla Painter scored the third goal at the 6:08 mark before the senior sticks of Kim and Petrie netted another pair of scores to put the Vikings up by five.

The Bluejays halted the scoring run with a goal to end the period and a second strike to start the next, cutting the Augie lead to three. The Vikings responded swiftly, kicking off a 6-1 run into the break with Madison Langewish's strike at 14:13 to cushion their edge back out to four. Narita Lambert sent Augustana's second goal of the period in at 7:43, followed by connections from Petrie and Langewisch to push the differential to seven. The Bluejays uncorked a goal at 3:52, but it was erased with back-to-back goals from the Vikings, including Painter's with a second to spare, as they entered the break up 11-3.

A quieter second half ensued, with Kim completing her hat trick and scoring the Vikings' lone goal in the third less than 90 seconds into the third quarter. The Bluejays answered with a pair of goals to trim the lead to seven after three, but an exchange of goals in the final frame put the game at its 13-6 final.

Petrie led the way for Augustana with four goals, while Kim and Langewisch each tallied three. The Vikings held a 13-9 advantage in the draw control, while Rachel Wylie posted a team-high five ground balls. Rachel Forman had nine saves in net in 60 minutes of action.

Augustana's scheduled contest on Saturday, April 29 at Carroll has been canceled and will be deemed a no contest. The Vikings end their 2023 season with a 6-7 overall record and 1-4 mark in the CCIW.
