Men's lacrosse secures Senior Day win over Carroll

ROCK ISLAND -- The Augustana Vikings men's lacrosse team picked up a conference home win over the Carroll Pioneers on Saturday, winning on Senior Day by a score of 12-3.

The Vikings grabbed two goals from Brady Holtz and Jake Moore within the first three minutes to give them an early 2-0 lead, but were met by a score from the visitors just seven seconds later as Carroll cut the differential in half. After nearly six minutes of scoreless play, Augie added on with another score, this time from Elijah Graesser to make it 3-1 after one quarter of play.

Augustana followed up their 3-1 advantage in the opening period with an identical margin in the second, answering a Carroll goal to begin the frame with three straight to take take a 6-2 lead into halftime. The Vikings saw three goals from three different players in the second as Jack Connolly, Graham Shap, and Rocco Boggio all contributed points. 

Graesser jump-started the Augustana scoring to begin the second half, scoring on a man-up opportunity just three minutes in to move the team's advantage to five. Augie went on to blank Carroll in the frame, scoring three times themselves for the third consecutive period. Brenson Brown and Boggio accounted for the final goals of the third, making it 9-2 in favor of Augustana heading into the final quarter. The Vikings posted another 3-1 margin through the final 15 minutes to secure the 12-3 victory. Connolly notched his second goal just 23 seconds into the period, followed back-to-back talliess from Carson Ghys to cap off the game's scoring.

The Vikings out-shot the Pioneers 64-29 in the win and had four different players earn multi-goal performances. Both Holtz and Ghys secured double-digit shot attempts, while senior Erik Singdahlsen grabbed the victory in net, stopping five shots in the first half. Paul Huber added a team-best eight ground balls and four caused turnovers.

With the win, Augie improves to 6-7 overall and 1-2 in the CCIW. The team will remain home for their next contest on Wednesday, April 19 against the Carthage Firebirds. Start time is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. from Thorson-Lucken Field.
