The Vikings nabbed their first two scores of the game in the bottom of the inning, with Kyle Campbell hitting a single to drive in a run and Dymitri Kanellakis following with an RBI triple to score Campbell. Boushele tossed another three-up, three-down inning in the second, giving way to another two-run inning from the Vikings' offense. A wild pitch accounted for the frame's first run, followed by an RBI hit from Alex Simon to make it 4-0 after two innings of play.
The two sides played scoreless third and fourth innings before the Vikings added three runs in the bottom of the fifth. With two outs and nobody on, the Vikings swiftly loaded the bases with a single and three consecutive hit batters to score Aragon and go up by five. The Firebirds issued back-to-back walks with the bases loaded to make it a seven-run game.
