MILWAUKEE, Wis. -- The Augustana Vikings men's lacrosse team was edged on the road on Thursday, falling to the MSOE Raiders by a score of 9-6.
After six minutes of scoreless play, the Raiders struck first on a man-up opportunity with 8:35 showing in the quarter. The Vikings responded a little over three minutes later with the first of two straight scores, seeing one hit the back of the net from
Jake Moore before
Jack Connolly gave the team the lead two minutes later. Moore canceled out one final first-quarter score from MSOE with a man-up goal to keep Augie in the lead at 3-2 after 15 minutes of action.
Moore notched his third goal of the game early in the second half to double the Vikings' advantage to two. MSOE answered with a tally of their own, but was met with Moore's fourth score at the 2:23 mark to keep the differential intact. The Raiders inched closer with one final first-half goal to make it 5-4 in favor of Augie at the break.
The Raiders flipped the script in the third period, out-scoring the Vikings 3-0 through the first 15 minutes of the second half to go up 7-5 entering the fourth quarter. The first two scores of the final frame belonged to MSOE as they cushioned their lead to four with seven minutes to go. Augie got within three a minute later due to a
Tommy Kopman score, but the team was unable draw closer and time ran out resulting in the 9-6 final.
Both teams were near-even in shots, with MSOE posting 39 to Augie's 37. Moore led the Vikings' offense with four goals on nine shots, while
Paul Huber shined on the defensive end with six caused turnovers.
Zach Reser ended his night 7-11 in faceoff attempts with four ground balls.
Erik Singdahlsen stopped 14 shots in net for the Vikings.
With the loss, Augie drops to 5-7 on the season. The team will return home for Senior Day on Saturday, April 15 when they host the Carroll Pioneers in a CCIW contest. Start time is scheduled for 12 p.m. from Thorson-Lucken Field.
