SEWANEE, Tenn. -- The Augustana Vikings men's lacrosse team was defeated on the road Wednesday night, falling to the Sewanee Tigers by a score of 13-6.
Elijah Graesser notched the first score of the game on a man-up opportunity to highlight a back-and-forth opening quarter. The Tigers answered with two scores of their own to grab their first lead, but the Vikings earned one right back on a
Brenson Brown score. Sewanee secured one final score with 1:36 remaining to take a 3-2 lead out of the opening quarter.Â
The Tigers doubled up the Vikings over the course of the next 15 minutes, scoring four times to bring the score to 7-4 heading into halftime. After the Tigers claimed the first goal of the frame,
Brady Holtz found the back of the net to bring Augie back within one. Sewanee responded with three in a row before Graesser tallied his second of the contest to halt momentum for the time being. The Tigers proceeded to shutout the Vikings in the third to extend their advantage, posting four goals on their way to a 5-0 run to begin the half. Brown and
Carson Ghys accounted for two of the contest's final three points, but the Vikings ran out of time as they fell by seven on the road.
Graesser and Brown led the Vikings' offensive attack with two goals apiece, while
Paul Huber notched a game-high four caused turnovers to go with five ground balls. Sewanee out-shot Augustana 67-26 in the contest, with
Erik Singdahlsen and
Gus Magnusson combining for 20 saves in net for Augie.Â
The loss drops the Vikings to 4-4 on the season. The team will return home for their next game on Thursday, March 30 when they host the Monmouth Fighting Scots in a rescheduled contest. Start time is scheduled for 7 p.m. from Thorson-Lucken Field.
