HANOVER, Ind. -- The Augustana Vikings softball team earned a split on the road on Sunday, defeating the Hanover Panthers in game two by a score of 7-1 after falling in the opener by a final of 5-2.
Game One (L 5-2)
A leadoff walk from
Ashlyn Mathers came around to score to give the Vikings the first the lead of the game, followed up shortly with a
Claudia Buchholz RBI single to make it 2-0 at the end of Augustana's opening at-bat. Hanover answered with a two-spot in their first chance at the plate, using four hits in the frame to even the score. The Panthers added one more in the second to take a slight one-run lead with them all the way to the sixth inning. Hanover tacked on two additional scores in the sixth, eventually closing the game out with a 5-2 win. The Vikings mustered just one hit in the final six innings after seeing three in the first.

Game Two (W 7-1)
After a scoreless first inning both ways to begin the series finale, the Vikings struck first for the second game in a row, seeing a run-producing single from
Meghan Nixon for the team's first score. The two squads put up zeroes in the third before Augie broke away in the fourth with three more runs. An RBI fielder's choice from
Anna Maciejewski doubled the Vikings' lead before
Nadia Ranieri pushed the margin out to four with a two-run single.
Roselyn Marmolejo's single and in the fifth and
Emily Gad's two-run hit in the sixth added on to their advantage before closing things out with the 7-1 final score.
Ranieri got the nod on the mound for Augustana and earned the complete game, striking out 11 in the process and giving up just four hits. She also did not allow a walk. Four different Vikings tallied more than one hit in the win, led by three from
Morgan Bielfeldt. The team finished with 12 in the contest.Â
With Sunday's results, the Vikings now sit at 7-7 overall. The team will remain on the road for their next outing on Wednesday, March 29 when they visit the Greenville Panthers for a doubleheader. Game one is scheduled for 2 p.m. from Greenville, Ill.
