GREENVILLE, Ill. -- The Augustana Vikings visited the Greenville Panthers on Wednesday for a non-conference doubleheader, dropping the opener by a score of 4-0 before winning game two by an identical score.
Game One (L 4-0)
The Panthers got on the board early in game one, tallying a run in their opening at-bat. The 1-0 game remained intact through the fourth inning prior to the Panthers adding onto their advantage with a score in the fifth and two more in the sixth. Augie put together a comeback threat in the seventh, securing two hits in the inning that were eventually left stranded.
Augustana out-hit Greenville 5-4 in the first leg of the doubleheader, with all five coming off the bat of a different player.
Lauren Koster struck out three on the mound.Â
Game Two (W 4-0)
In the second half of the day's doubleheader, both teams played through three scoreless innings before the Vikings struck for two runs in their half of the fourth. After an
Olivia Blood walk to begin the frame,
Morgan Bielfeldt sent one over the fence to make it a 2-0 advantage for Augustana.
Nadia Ranieri continued to keep the Panthers in check on the mound, going the distance and striking out 12 on her way to a complete-game shutout.Â
The Vikings added two insurance runs in the top of the 7th as
Emily Gad and
Jennica Soliz both notched RBI. Ranieri retired Greenville in order in their final at-bat opportunity, striking out two.
Augustana out-hit Greenville 6-2 in game two, led by Blood's two base knocks. Ranieri improved to 6-2 with the win on the mound.
The Vikings now sit at 8-8 overall and will begin CCIW action on Sunday, April 2 at North Central. Start time of game one is scheduled for 1 p.m. from Naperville, Ill.
