ROCK ISLAND -- The Augustana Vikings men's volleyball team fell in consecutive sets on Wednesday, defeated by the visiting Loras Duhawks by scores of 25-13, 25-16, 25-22.
The Duhawks tallied the first three points of the opening game, but the Vikings got within one multiple times before evening the score at 10 points apiece. After notching four of the next six points, Loras strung together a 10-0 run to pull away for good and seal the opening game. The visitors began the second set with an early 7-3 advantage before Augie got within two at 10-8. The Vikings never got the deficit under two as Loras slowly strengthened their lead to nine before winning the set by that margin.
Loras never trailed in the final frame, but fended off multiple pushes from Augustana. The Vikings trimmed an early hole to just one point at 15-14 before Loras answered with a 6-3 run to cushion their advantage to four. A late 3-0 surge got Augie within two at 24-22, but a kill from the Duhawks countered the run and ended the match with a 25-22 score.
Aidan Bolen was the top attacker for the Vikings on the night, finishing with six kills.
Max Sellers finished with five digs.
Augustana drops to 10-8 on the year and 1-4 in CCIW action. The team will be back in action on Saturday, March 25 when they visit the North Park Vikings. Start time is scheduled for 2 p.m. from Chicago, Ill.
