Women's lacrosse falls in double overtime to Concordia-Chicago

ROCK ISLAND – The Augustana Vikings women's lacrosse team was defeated by Concordia-Chicago on Saturday, falling to the Cougars by a 9-8 final in double overtime.

Augustana nabbed the opening score as Cassidy Petrie converted her free-position shot to put the Vikings up 1-0 less than two minutes into the game. The Cougars answered with three consecutive goals before Augie tied the contest with back-to-back scores from Claire Kim and Petrie in the closing minutes of the first period. The draw was short-lived as Concordia struck first in the second frame prior to Kyla Painter netting her first goal to tie the game at four all. The Vikings trailed 6-4 entering the locker room after the visitors notched two scores before the second frame's conclusion.

Petrie scored with 5:12 remaining in the third period to complete her hat trick and bring the Vikings within one. Neither team scored for the remainder of the third, but an Elena Bechard goal just 30 seconds into the fourth knotted the game at 6-6. Concordia and Augie traded goals with just over 10 minutes left before the Cougars seized a one-point lead at 5:59. Petrie scored her fifth goal of the contest at 2:32 to knot the game at 8-8 and force overtime. The first extra session went scoreless before the Cougars snuck a shot by the Vikings with 2:31 remaining in the second overtime to secure a 9-8 road victory.

Petrie had five goals to lead the Vikings' scoring attack, while Bechard, Painter, and Kim each had one. Augie caused seven turnovers, paced by Bechard with three. The Vikings had nine ground balls as a team, led by Painter with three. In net, Rachel Forman secured nine saves across six quarters of action.

The Vikings move to 2-2 on the season following the loss. The team will face the Monmouth Fighting Scots for their next contest on Wednesday, March 22. Start time is scheduled for 6:00 p.m. from Thorson-Lucken Field
