FORT MYERS, Fla. – Augustana baseball defeated Saint John's (Minn.) 9-0 on Saturday, earning their third straight win at the Gene Cusic Classic and eighth overall.
Harrison Boushele took the mound to begin his complete game, striking out two batters in a three-up, three-down first inning. Augie endured a scoreless first inning before grabbing their first run in the second on an RBI single from Ethan Sosnowksi. The two teams worked through a scoreless third frame before the Vikings' offense erupted for five runs in the bottom of the fourth. Kyle Campbell opened the Augie scoring run with an RBI double before Dymitri Kanellakis drove in the team's third run with an RBI single. Michael Aragon's single brought in two runners before Cole Green scored Aragon from third to put the Vikings up 6-0.
The Vikings added two runs in the bottom of the fifth inning, beginning with a Matt Ozanic RBI triple before Kanellakis drove him in with a sacrifice fly to center field. Augie tacked on their final run in the sixth frame on another sacrifice fly, this time from Alex Simon. Boushele continued to deal through the remainder of the game, striking out four batters and not allowing a hit across the final three innings to blank Saint John's and secure the 9-0 victory.
Boushele earned his third win of the season in shutout fashion, striking out 10 batters and giving up just one hit to the Johnnies. The junior now boasts a 1.08 ERA on the year, having struck out 38 batters in 25 innings of work. Augie registered 10 hits, with Aragon, Sosnowki, Kannelakis, and Ozanic tallying two apiece.
Augustana improves to 9-2 with the win and will conclude their stay in Fort Myers with a bout against Western Connecticut State at 8:00 a.m. CST on Sunday.
