ELMHURST, Ill. -- The Augustana Vikings men's basketball team was defeated on the road on Wednesday, falling to the Elmhurst Bluejays by a final of 94-76.
After a high-scoring start to the opening half, the Vikings and Bluejays went scoreless for the final three minutes as the home team held a 42-35 advantage at the break. Elmhurst led by as many nine on multiple occasions, but Augustana remained within striking distance after 20 minutes of action. The Vikings held the Bluejays to just two made field goals over the final five minutes to keep the score under 10.
The Bluejays grabbed their first double-digit lead a minute into the second half, but were met with back-to-back baskets from the Vikings to cut the lead to five, the lowest differential since the 6:47 mark of the first half. Augustana eventually cut it to four at 47-43, but Elmhurst slowly stretched their advantage back out, reaching the double-figure mark again with just under 13 minutes remaining. The margin never dipped below 10 as the home team closed out the Vikings by 18.
Daniel Carr was one of three Vikings to notch double-digit scoring, tallying 18 points to go with his 12 rebounds.
Tyler Knuth was next with 14 points, while
Colton Gillingham added 12.Â
With the loss, the Vikings drop to 7-17 overall and 5-10 in the CCIW. The team will return home for their season finale on Saturday, February 18 when they host the North Park Vikings for Senior Night. Start time is scheduled for 7:15 p.m. from inside the Carver Center.
