ROCK ISLAND -- Daniel Carr is the newest member of the 1,000-point club at Augustana on Saturday as the team closed out their season with a home loss to the North Park Vikings by a final of 73-65.
An opening three from
Tyler Knuth put Augie on top early, but North Park quickly grabbed the lead and never lost it the rest of the half despite leading by just two at the break. The visitors saw an opening-half advantage reach as many as 11 points, but Augustana charged back with a 23-12 run over the course of the final seven minutes to draw within two after 20 minutes of action. Augie had two players reach double figures in the high-scoring half, with Knuth and
Anthony Cooper each tallying 10. Augustana shot just 34 percent from the field compared to North Park's 45 percent effort, but hit 12-13 from the free-throw line to stay within striking distance. Carr's basket at the 3:46 gave him 1,000 points for his career.
After trading baskets through five minutes into the second half, the home team Vikings saw their first lead since the opening minutes, benefiting from five straight points from
Colton Gillingham to put Augie up one.
Evan Ambrose added another jumper to make it 48-45 with 13 minutes remaining. From there, a quick 11-0 run from North Park but the visitors back out in front for good. Augustana got within five with eight minutes to go, but NPU thwarted an comeback attempt to hold on by eight.
Knuth was the team's top scorer with 19 points, followed by 15 from Cooper. Carr finished his Augie career with eight points and a game-high 14 rebounds.
