ROCK ISLAND – The Augustana Vikings men's soccer team dropped conference match on Saturday at Thorson-Lucken Field against the Carroll Pioneers, falling by a score of 3-2.
 
Augustana was on the board first with a pass from Nick Sell to Derek Dedume in the fifth minute of the contest. The Pioneers shortly followed the Vikings as they put up a shot in the 10th minute and once more at 22 minutes. Augie had two other strikes in the period by Steven Zuccheri and another from Dedume.
 
The second half started with a Pioneers goal in the 50th minute producing a 3-1 score. The Vikings put up a fight in the second half in this neck-to-neck game, stopping 10 shots by Carroll and attempting five of their own. In the last 10 minutes on the pitch, Dedume scored once again at the 80th minute to bring them within one. Carroll held on down the stretch to complete the 3-2 win.
 
Ignacio Alberola set aside nine shot attempts in all 90 minutes of play.
 
The Augustana Vikings men's soccer team will be back in action at Thorson-Lucken Field on Wednesday, October 25 at 7 p.m to take on North Central.
