ROCK ISLAND -- The Augustana Vikings men's soccer team was defeated by the Elmhurst Bluejays on Wednesday night, falling by a score of 5-1.
After weather moved the start time back, the Bluejays found the back of the net early, notching two goals within the first 10 minutes of action. The two teams traded shots in a back-and-forth pace as Elmhurst took their 2-0 lead into halftime after posting a slight 8-7 advantage in shots.
Early in the second, Augustana cut the deficit in half after
Ben Statz collected a goal on a pass from
Jarrett Baumgartner. Immediately after the score, the two teams headed into the locker room due to weather. Following a lengthy delay, the Bluejays tallied three scores over the final 18 minutes of action, pushing their final margin to 5-1.
Elmhurst out-shot Augustana 18-12 in the contest. The Vikings were led in shots by
Jimmie Kucaba with five.
Ignacio Alberola snagged five saves in net.
The team will be back in action Saturday at Grinnell.
