ROCKFORD, Ill. -- The Augustana Vikings men's soccer team fell in their first road contest of the season on Thursday, defeated by the Rockford Regents by a score of 1-0.
The Augie defense fended off double-digit shots from Rockford in the first half and went into the locker room at half with a scoreless 0-0 tie. The Regents out-shot the Vikings 11-6 in the opening 45 minutes and 16-10 in the game.
Rockford scored the first and only goal of the game just over six minutes into the second half. The Vikings and Regents went back-and-forth the rest of the way, with the Vikings leading the shot category in the final 30 minutes of action. Augie was unsuccessful finding the back of the net and Rockford held on for the 1-0 lead.
Ben Statz led the Vikings attack with a team-high four shots, two on target.
Ethan Wheeler also tallied multiple shots in the contest, finishing with two.
Benjamin Samuelson grabbed nine saves in goal for Augie.
With the loss, Augustana drops to 0-2-1 on the year. The team will return home for the next game on Saturday, September 10 when they host the Marian Sabres. Start time is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. from Thorson-Lucken Field.
