Men's soccer falls to Marian

ROCK ISLAND, Ill. -- The Augustana Vikings men's soccer team was defeated by the visiting Marian Sabres on Saturday, falling by a score of 3-0 from Thorson-Lucken Field.

The first 45 minutes of the contest featured multiple scoring opportunities for each team, with Augie putting up nine shots to Marian's five. The Sabres fended off four attempts on target in the first half, while the Vikings stopped one from Marian. The two teams went into halftime with a scoreless tie.

Marian the first of three second half goals in the 70th minute, with the other two coming over the course of the next 12 minutes. The Vikings managed to post eight shots in the second and out-shot the Sabres 17-14 for the game, but were unable to connect on any for a score. 

Bjarki Stole and Daniele Meloni led Augie with three shots apiece, while three others had two in the game. Meloni had a team-high two shots on target as well. Benjamin Samuelson had two saves in net.

With the loss, Augustana drops to 0-3-1 on the season. They will be back in action on Wednesday, September 14 at home against the Illinois College Blueboys. Start time is scheduled for 4:30 p.m.
