GREENVILLE, Ill. – The Augustana women's soccer team continued their 2022 schedule with a road contest at Greenville University this weekend.
The Vikings controlled a scoreless first half with five shots to Greenville's one. All five of the Vikings' first half attempts were taken by different players while two, from
Samira Khobdeh and
Abby DeGustino, were on target.
Greenville finally broke the scoreless tie in the 60th minute when Jen De Leon sent a penalty kick past Augie goalkeeper
Janey Castoe.
Despite a handful of opportunities the rest of the way, Augie failed to even the score and fell by a 1-0 margin.
Jayde Speight and
Kayla Garcia led the Vikings with two total shots, each with one on goal. Castoe finished the contest with three saves.
The Viking women will compete in their 2022 home opener in their next contest. Augie will start a four-game home stretch with a mid-week matchup against Benedictine on Wednesday, Sep. 7 at 7:00 P.M.
