MONMOUTH, Ill. -- Augustana men's soccer faced off against the Monmouth Fighting Scots at Peacock Memorial Athletic Park on Wednesday, resulting in a 1-0 loss for the Vikings.
Augie was able to apply pressure early in the first half, forcing two corner kicks within the first four minutes. Fouls ended up haunting the Vikings as they tallied nine in the first 45 minutes. Augustana mustered just two shot attempts in the fist half. The Fighting Scots took four shots on goal, but none were able to get past goalkeeper
Benjamin Sameulson, who had three of his five saves in the first half.
The Vikings put up eight shots in the second period, though none of them flew into the opposing net.
Daniele Meloni and
Bjarki Stole paced the Vikings on the afternoon, with two shots each on goal. Augie had five other players register at least one shot in the contest.
Monmouth registered the lone score of the match in minute 75.
Augustana will remain on the road for their next matchup against conference foe Carthage on Saturday, October 1. Start time is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
