JACKSONVILLE, Ill. -- Liesl Whitener tallied three goals and the Augustana Vikings women's soccer team cruised to a road victory over the Illinois College Lady Blue on Tuesday night, winning by a score of 7-1
Whitener struck first for the Vikings less than three minutes into the contest, sending one in unassisted for her third goal of the season. Eight minutes later,
Kayla Garcia grabbed her sixth of the season on a play that saw an assist each from
Molly Fank and Whitener. The final two goals of the first half for Augie came unassisted as
Lexi Dominguez notched her second of the year, followed by one more from Whitener halfway through the opening frame. Augustana led 4-0 after 45 minutes of action.
Kim Vulic got in on the action to kick off the second half with a goal six minutes in, followed by Whitener's third of the game just 40 second later.
Abby DeGustino secured the seventh and final goal for the Vikings in the 68th minutes as the team coasted to the end with a 7-1 victory.
Augie out-shot Illinois College 30-10 in the contest, with 16 of those coming on target. Garcia finished with a game-high eight shots, while Whitener had six of her seven attempts on target.
Anjelica Ortiz stopped two shots in net in a little over 20 minutes of action.
With the win, Augustana improves to 5-3-2 overall. The team will dive back into conference action this Saturday, October 1 as they take on the Carthage Firebirds on the road. Start time is scheduled for 3:00 p.m. from Kenosha, Wis.
