Women's soccer extends unbeaten streak with win over Carthage

KENOSHA, Wis. -- The Augustana Vikings women's soccer team extended their unbeaten streak to four games, picking up their second straight win on Saturday with a 2-0 road victory over the Carthage Firebirds.

Both teams played to a scoreless opening half, each posting four shots apiece in the first 45 minutes of action. Both of Carthage's shots on goal came in the first half, both saved by Augie keeper Janey Castoe.

Kim Vulic scored the first goal of the game for the Vikings in the 53rd minute, which proved to be the game-winner. Augustana held Carthage to just one shot attempt in the second half, tallying seven of their own for the 11-5 advantage in that category for the game. Liesl Whitener added an insurance goal at the 80:35 mark, her sixth of the season, on a penalty kick to help close the out the 2-0 win for the Vikings.

Whitener and Vulic combined for eight of the team's 11 shots. Maeve Sheridan, Kayla Garcia, and Carson Kekelik also added an attempt.

With the win, Augustana improves to 6-3-2 overall and 1-0-1 in the CCIW. The Vikings will face first-place Illinois Wesleyan on Wednesday, October 5 in their next outing. Start time is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. from Bloomington, Ill.
