PLATTEVILLE, Wis. -- The Augustana Vikings women's soccer team charged back from an early 2-0 deficit on Tuesday to earn a 2-2 draw with the UW-Platteville Pioneers.
Platteville put two goals on the board in the first 12 minutes of action, grabbing one at the 3:48 and 11:51 marks. About eight minutes later, the Vikings cut the two-point deficit in half as
Lexi Dominguez notched her first goal of the season off of an assist from
Kayla Garcia. The Pioneers held the 2-1 lead after 45 minutes of play. Platteville out-shot Augie 9-5 in the first half.
The home team kept the pressure on the Vikings into the second half, posting a 10-4 margin in shots in just the second half. The Augie defense continued to keep them in it as reigning CCIW Defensive Player of the Week
Janey Castoe tallied three saves on the night, two coming in the second half. With just under 20 minutes remaining in the game, the Vikings got the equalizing goal from
Kim Vulic, her first of the season, to even the score at two goals a piece. The 2-2 score held out until the end as each team walked away with their first draw of the season.
Abby DeGustino tallied a team-high three shots for the Vikings, while Vuilc and Dominguez each added two.
Samira Khobdeh also secured an assist on Vulic's game-tying goal.
With the result, Augie's record now sits at 4-3-1 on the season. The team will return home for their CCIW opener on Saturday, September 24 when they host North Park. Start time is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. from Thorson-Lucken Field.
