DECATUR, Ill. -- The Augustana Vikings women's tennis team was defeated on the road on Saturday, falling to the Millikin Big Blue by a score of 7-2.
The Big Blue were victorious in all three doubles matches, winning No. 1 and 3 by a score of 8-1 and No. 2 by a final of 8-0. Millikin took a 3-0 lead heading into singles.
Augie secured two wins in singles, with
Caitlyn Hanulikova defeating her opponent at No. 2 by a score of 6-1, 6-3, while
Hannah Colbert won in a third-set tiebreaker at the No. 4 slot. Millikin was victorious in the other four slots to clinch the 7-2 match win.
"It was difficult to come back starting down 0-3 in doubles, despite playing very well overall in singles," said head coach
David DeSimone. "We had a couple of nice wins from Cailtyn and Hannah and are excited to get back at it tomorrow."
The Vikings drop to 1-2 overall and in CCIW action with the loss. The team will return home to take on the Carroll Pioneers on Sunday, September 18. Due to weather, the match as been moved to Westwood Tennis Center in Sterling, Ill. and will begin at 12:45 p.m.
