ROCK ISLAND, Ill. -- The Augustana Vikings men's soccer team was defeated at home on Wednesday, falling to the visiting Illinois College Blueboys by a score of 1-0 at Thorson-Lucken Field.
A Blueboys goal in the 11th minute proved to be the difference as the Vikings failed to push one into the back of the net, despite out-shooting the visitors 17-12. Illinois College held a slight advantage in shots after 45 minutes of action, putting up seven compared to Augustana's six.
The Vikings upped the pressure in the second half, seeing numerous opportunities in front of the Illinois College goal, but were unable to connect on any one of their 11 shots.
Jack Edwards led Augie with a team-high five shots.
Ben Statz was close behind with four. Edwards also posted a high of two shots on goal.
With the loss, Augustana drops to 0-4-1 overall. The team will be back in action on Tuesday, September 20 when they visit UW-Platteville on the road. Start time is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. from Platteville, Wis
