BLOOMINGTON, Ill. -- The Augustana Vikings women's lacrosse team was defeated in their first conference contest of the season on Saturday, falling to the Illinois Wesleyan Titans on the road by a score of 20-5.
The Titans accounted for the game's first four scores until the Vikings saw one go into the back of the net with just over three minutes showing in the opening quarter on a
Claire Kim connected shot. After an Illinois Wesleyan answer, Kim added her second of the frame with 12 seconds remaining to cut the deficit to 5-2 after 15 minutes of action.
The home team broke things open in the next period, shutting out the Vikings while putting up a five-spot on the scoreboard to take an 11-2 advantage into halftime. Augie fought back with a positive third quarter, seeing three goals from
Kate Hettiger to help the team post a plus-one advantage during those 15 minutes. The Titans responded with a big fourth quarter with seven goals to pull away for good.
Kim finished her afternoon with two goals and an assist, while Hettiger's three scores gives her 20 on the season.
With the loss, Augustana drops to 4-5 overall and 0-1 in CCIW play. The team will be back in action on Wednesday, April 13 when they visit North Central on the road. Start time is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. from Naperville, Ill.
