Women's lacrosse tripped up by Carthage on Senior Night

ROCK ISLAND, Ill. -- The Augustana Vikings women's lacrosse team was defeated in their final regular season home game on Saturday, falling to the visiting Carthage Firebirds by a score of 22-8 from Thorson-Lucken Field.

Claire Kim accounted for the first score of the game less than two minutes in to give the Vikings the early lead, but were met with six unanswered goals from the Firebirds in response. Kate Hettiger made the deficit four at 6-2 shortly after, followed up by three more from Carthage to close the first quarter with a 9-2 score.

The Firebirds outscored the Vikings 6-0 in just the second quarter to increase their scoring run to 9-0 as they entered halftime with a 15-2 advantage. After Carthage tallied the first goal of the second half, Cassidy Petrie ended the run with a goal, the first of two for her in the third quarter. The junior added one more to begin the four-score fourth quarter for the Vikings, followed by three goals from three of the seniors as Hettiger, Sydney Rector, and Margaret Cecilio all pushed one into the back of the net. Augie outscored the visitors 4-3 in the final frame, but Carthage rounded out the contest with the 22-8 victory.

Senior goalkeeper Hannah Collins had five saves in net for Augustana as she played in her final home game. Sydney Silverthorn posted a team-high five ground balls in the contest.
