ROCK ISLAND, Ill. -- The Augustana Vikings women's lacrosse team was defeated in their final non-conference match of the season on Tuesday, falling to the St. Ambrose Fighting Bees by a score of 17-5 at Thorson-Lucken Field.
The Bees tallied the game's first goal 45 seconds into the game on their way to an 8-0 first-quarter advantage. Augie notched their first score of the contest shortly into the second quarter as
Cassidy Petrie got the Vikings on the board. St. Ambrose posted four more goals in the frame to take a 12-1 lead into halftime.
For the second straight quarter, Augustana secured the period's opening goal, this time on a
Kate Hettiger score from
Sydney Rector a minute into the second half. The Vikings had their best quarter offensively in the third, pushing across three total goals. Petrie and Hettiger accounted for the final two heading into the fourth. Each team grabbed one more in the final period, with the Vikings seeing theirs come from
Margaret Cecilio.
With the loss, Augie drops to 4-4 on the season. The team will be back in action on Saturday, April 9 when they face off with Illinois Wesleyan on the road in their conference opener.
