The Vikings never trailed in the win

ROCK ISLAND, Ill. -- The Augustana Vikings women's lacrosse team made it a successful return to their home field on Saturday after three straight on the road, defeating the visiting Beloit Buccaneers by a score of 16-4 from Thorson-Lucken Field.

Kate Hettiger was responsible for the game's first goal to give the Vikings an early 1-0 lead two minutes into the first quarter. After Beloit tied things up, Augie saw back-to-back scores from Sydney Rector and another from Claire Kim to close the first 15 minutes with a 4-1 advantage.

The Vikings broke open the game in the second quarter, shutting out the Buccaneers while scoring eight in the period alone. Five different Vikings tallied a goal in the frame, led by three from Cassidy Petrie and two from Hettiger. Augustana led Beloit 12-1 at halftime.

The scoring run for the Vikings reached 12 unanswered goals as Rector notched the first of the second half 32 seconds into the third quarter. Rector and Margaret Cecilio split the four goals in the third to help lead the team to a 13-point lead heading into the final 15 minutes of action and eventually notch the 12-point win.

Seven different members scored at least one goal for Augustana and four posted at least three in the game. Rector secured a team-high four goals, while Hettiger, Cecilio, and Petrie all finished with three. Petrie also added a game-high three assists.

With the win, Augustana improves to 4-3 overall this season and are winners of their last three contests. The team will remain home for their next game on Tuesday, March 29 when they host the St. Ambrose Fighting Bees. Start time is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. from Thorson-Lucken Field.
