FOND DU LAC, Wis. -- The Augustana Vikings women's lacrosse team earned their second consecutive victory on Thursday, defeating the Marian Sabres 12-7 to close out their current road stretch.
Augie outscored Marian 4-0 in the opening quarter to give them early momentum.
Cassidy Petrie notched the game's first scores two minutes in, followed by one from
Sydney Rector later on.
Margaret Cecilio rounded out the opening period with back-to-back scores in the final four minutes to bring the 4-0 advantage into the second.
Claire Kim made it five goals in a row for the Vikings to begin the second quarter, helping lead the team to a 4-3 advantage in the second quarter alone. Augie tallied three of the first four scores of the frame, with Marian answering with the final two to bring the score to 8-3 heading into halftime. Cecilio secured three of the Vikings' four goals to give her five in just the first half.
Cecilio continued her successful night with two additional scores in the third to go with a goal from Rector. Again, Augustana held a slight advantage in the period to extend their advantage to six heading into the final quarter. Marian posted a 2-1 differential in the fourth, but it was not nearly enough as Augie snagged the five-point victory on the road.
Kate Hettiger added the final goal of the game for the Vikings.
Cecilio finished the contest with seven goals and an assist to lead the Vikings. Rector posted two assists to go along with her two scores.
With the win, Augie improves to 3-3 on the season. The team will return home on Saturday, March 26 to host the Beloit Buccaneers in a non-conference contest. Start time is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. from Thorson-Lucken Field.
