MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. -- The Augustana Vikings women's lacrosse team earned a non-conference road victory on Tuesday, defeating the Augsburg Auggies by a score of 18-10.
It did not take long for the Vikings to create separation in this one, pushing across six first-quarter goals and the first four of the contest for the early advantage.
Cassidy Petrie notched the first score in the first minute of play, followed by two from
Kyla Painter one from
Claire Kim before the Auggies grabbed their first goal. Painter added her third of the frame shortly after to help lead the Vikings to a 6-1 lead after one quarter of action.
Augustana mirrored their first-quarter effort with six more scores in the second, led by two from Petrie and three from
Sydney Rector. Two of Rector's goals came within the final 30 seconds of the half to give the Vikings a 12-5 lead at intermission.
Petrie tallied the opening goal of the second half to fuel another positive quarter for the Vikings, this time seeing a 3-1 advantage give them a nine-point margin heading into the final period. Augsburg scored three goals in the fourth, but two were offset by Augustana and the Vikings completed the 18-10 victory.
Eight different Augie players notched at least one goal, spearheaded by Petrie's five. Two others in Rector and Painter tallied three apiece, while Kim and
Kate Hettiger also secured multi-score performances.
Hannah Collins and
Rachel Forman combined for ten saves in net.
With the win, Augustana improves to 2-3 on the season. The team will remain on the road for their next contest on Thursday, March 24 when they take on the Marian Sabres. Start time is scheduled for 5:00 p.m. from Fond du Lac, Wis.
