HILTON HEAD, S.C. -- The Augustana Vikings men's tennis team was defeated by the Carleton Knights on the first day of their spring break trip in South Carolina, falling by a score of 8-1.
After falling in No. 3 doubles, the two teams saw close battles at the top two spots. The Vikings and Knights split the remaining matches in doubles play, with
Arthur Hermange and
Leonardo Panosso earning a hard-fought 8-7 (6) victory.
Kyle Boudreau and
Gabriel Luna were narrowly defeated at No. 3 by a score of 8-6.
Carleton earned wins at all six singles places to take the match by a final of 8-1. Boudreau put up a good fight at No. 6, taking it to three sets after winning the first 6-2, but came up short in the following two.
"Overall, it was great to be back on the court and adjust to playing outside," said head coach
David DeSimone. "We have some areas to improve, but this was a great start."
The Vikings fall to 1-7 with the loss and will take on Union tomorrow morning at 8:00 a.m. CST.
